Wessex Karate Academy

We practice traditional Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate and are affiliated with Goju Ryu Karate International (GKI)
We train children and adults of any ability from age 6 and up, including private lessons on request. The club has attained the Safeguarding Code in Martial Arts “mark” and all instructors are fully qualified and DBS checked.
Unlock your potential with the power of karate – where discipline, fitness, and confidence come together to transform lives.
Our instructors are dedicated, highly skilled martial artists with years of experience in teaching and practising karate. They are passionate about helping students achieve their personal best, combining traditional techniques with modern training methods.
Kobudo (weapons) training
Kobudo is the weapons system of traditional Okinawan martial arts.
We train with bo (wooden staff), sai (short-handled trident), tonfa (handled club), kama (sickle), nunchaku (two rope-connected sticks), the tekko (knuckledusters), tinbe-rochin (shield and spear), and eku (boat oar).
Lessons are available at our Weymouth dojo, and online via Zoom, for students over the age of 14.
